Question:
Say there ERA is it 2.55. How do they bring it down to 2.35?Answer:
The more innings you have pitched, the harder it is to bring down the ERA.For example, if you have an ERA of 3.00 after pitching 9 innings, then you can bring it down to 1.50 if you pitch a 9-inning shutout your next game.
But if your ERA of 3.00 is based on 100 innings, then you will have to not allow an earned run for the next 100 innings to bring it down to 1.50.
The same cannot be said about "blowing up" the ERA, since theoretically one can allow an unlimited number of runs in one inning.
